Do you help treat terminal or chronic illness?

Naturopathic doctors focus on treating the whole person, rather than just the symptoms of a chronic disease. By finding the root cause of a chronic condition, a naturopathic doctor can create a treatment plan that is tailored to the individual. This may include natural therapies such as nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy, lifestyle counseling, hydrotherapy, and physical medicine. Furthermore, naturopathic doctors are trained to assess and manage complex chronic illnesses.

How are Naturopathic Doctors Educated/Licensed?

Naturopathic doctors are medical professionals who specialize in natural remedies to promote wellness and treat illness. They undergo 4 years of extensive in-residence training with a minimum of 4100 hours of instruction in class rooms as well as the student clinic. During this time they are rigorously instructed on the biomedical sciences as well as the latest research regarding traditional and natural remedies.  In addition to the typical medical education and instruction in pharmacology naturopathic doctors also receive training in nutrition, homeopathy, botanical medicine, manual therapies/bodywork, and lifestyle counseling. With this comprehensive training, and after passing their state's board exams, naturopathic doctors are well-equipped to provide safe and effective care. In the state of Oregon they are licensed as primary care providers with prescribing rights similar to non-specialist MDs.

What should I expect from my first session?

On your first visit with Dr. Becker, you can expect a thorough and holistic investigation into your health and all of the factors which contribute towards it. The initial appointment will be considerably longer than a traditional doctor's visit, typically around 90 minutes, allowing Dr. Becker adequate time to more deeply understand your medical history, current health concerns, lifestyle, and any underlying factors contributing to your well-being. He may order comprehensive lab tests, imaging, or diagnostic evaluations to gain a more complete understanding of your health status. Dr. Becker will then work closely with you to create a personalized treatment plan that may include natural remedies, nutritional guidance, lifestyle modifications, and if needed, prescription medications or other interventions. Expect open and collaborative discussions about your health goals, treatment options, and the principles guiding naturopathic medicine, including treating the root cause of issues and supporting the body's innate healing abilities. Your first visit will hopefully leave you with a sense of empowerment and a clear path towards improved well-being through an integrative and patient-centered approach.
